असम की महिलाओं द्वारा पहने जाने वाली पारंपरिक पोशाक है मेखला चादर । यह पोशाक घरेलू काम करते वक़्त व कसी विशेष उत्सव दोनों में ही पहनी जाती है।

The traditional dress worn by the women of Assam is Mekhla Chadar. This dress is worn both while doing household chores and in any special festival.

गौर करने वाली बात यह है कि मेखला चादर को असम की ही महिला बुनकर बुनती हैं। गुवाहाटी से मात्र 35 किलोमीटर दूर स्यूलकुची नामक एक छोटा सा शहर इसके उत्पादन के लिए प्रसिद्द है। मेखला चादर, ज्यादातर तीन तरह के होते हैं। किस किस्म के सिल्क से ये बने हैं, उसके आधार पर- मुगा, एरी और पट मेखला चादर।

It is worth noting that Mekhla Chadar is woven by women weavers of Assam only. A small town called Sulekuchi, just 35 km from Guwahati, is famous for its production. There are mostly three types of Mekhla Chadar. Depending on the type of silk from which they are made - Muga, Eri and Pat Mekhla Chadar.
