The dhoti, known as the national dress of India, is a strip of white or colored cloth that spans approximately 4 to 6 feet. This traditional Indian dress is mainly worn by men, it is held in place by the draping style and is sometimes held around the waist with the help of a belt, embellished and embroidered or a flat and simple one. Is.

It is a traditional dress mainly in village areas all over India. The farmers are known to make the dhoti the famous dress. Dhoti can be seen in various parts of western India and northern India and is commonly worn by men. It is also worn in marriage ceremonies along with kurta in some communities. Recently, dhoti has become a fashion statement during wedding ceremonies and even parties.

Dhoti is the traditional dress for men all over India. It is often confused with lungi as well, but it is a different dress. There are many styles and attitudes of dhoti depending on the state or province. It has various regional names like Mundu in Kerala, Dhotar in Maharashtra, Lacha in Punjabi and Mardani in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The name Dhoti is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Dhauta'. It is considered a part of the traditional dress not only in India but also in many countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives. It is often worn with a kurta. In North Indian parts it is worn in pant style and in South India in skirt style.

The dhoti is often made of cotton cloth. Otherwise, nowadays you will get to see more modern forms of dhoti like readymade dhoti is now available, which does not have to be tied and you can wear it like a pant.

Since ancient times, men in India have generally worn dhoti, antriya (clothing wrapped around the lower part of the body), utriya (clothing wrapped around the upper part of the body), kamarbandh (as the name suggests) and turban. were worn. The inner waist was supported by a kayabandh, which was often tied from the front to the center of the waist.

Women used to wear dhoti, sari, breastpatta (to hold the breasts). The specialty of the above garments was that they were not stitched, but later there was a lot of change in the way of wearing these clothes. First of all there was a change in the dress over the dhoti. Wearing kurta instead of northern clothes became a trend.

Earlier it was customary to wear dhoti instead of pajama. Dhoti was a garment for men, which was simultaneously prevalent in North and South India. The style of wearing the dhoti was different. In South India, most people still wear dhoti.

Silk dhoti is considered more sattvik than pajama. By wearing it, a subtle circular armor is formed on all sides of the body of the living being. This makes it easy for a living being to receive both the tarak-killer and sagun-nirguna elements of the deity. In northern India, the dhoti is now worn only on special occasions, such as in a yagya, puja or auspicious work.

Earlier the color of dhoti was only white but now well handcrafted colored dhoti is also in vogue. It is worn during religious rituals like festivals, yajna, upanayana, marriage, Vastu Shanti, although nowadays it is out of vogue. Dresses worn in South India are made from cotton fabric, which is very light. Men carry the angavastra (a garment worn over the shoulder) along with a lungi and shirt.
