If we talk about Safa, then different types of Safa are tied in Malwa and different types of Safa are tied in Rajasthan. It is also called turban or feta. It is different in Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, then different in Tamil Nadu.
It was worn by almost all Indians in ancient and medieval times. In Rajasthan also Marwari Safa is different and normal Rajasthani Safa is different. The Mughals adopted Afghani, Pathani and Punjabi safa. The Sikhs changed these safas into jaddas, which gives them a different identity.
In Rajput society in Rajasthan, different colors of safas and different styles of tying are used from time to time, as Rajput soldiers used to wear saffron safa during war, hence saffron colored safa became a symbol of war and bravery. .
In normal days, Rajput elders used to tie khaki colored round safa on the head, while in various ceremonies, colorful safas like Pacharanga, Chundari, Lahariya etc. were used. White colored safa is considered synonymous with mourning, so in Rajput society only the mourning person wears white safa.
Safa in Manglik and Religious Functions - Even today it is customary to wear Safa in Manglik or religious functions, so that any kind of rituals recognize a respect, culture and spirituality. It has many more importance. If all the people of the Gharaati and Barati parties wear Safa in the marriage, then the marriage ceremony gets four moons. This creates a different identity for him in the ceremony.
