घाघरा/ घाघरे को पेटीकोट भी कहते हैं। इसे लगभग पूरे उत्तर भारत और नेपाल में भी पहना जाता है। इसे चोली और दुपट्टे के साथ पहनते हैं। साड़ी के साथ अंतरवस्त्रों में अधोवस्त्र घाघरा होता है जिसके ऊपर साड़ी को लपेटकर कसा जाता है। हालांकि पेटीकोट के स्थान पर महिलाएं शेपवेयर पहनने लगी हैं, जो कि बहुत ही तंग होता है। यह नुकसानदायक भी हो सकता है।

Ghaghra / Ghaghra is also called petticoat. It is also worn almost all over North India and Nepal. Wear it with choli and dupatta. साड़ी पहनना और उसे शरीर पर संभालकर रखना बहुत ही कठिनाइयोंभरा है। प्राचीनकाल में महिलाएं अच्छे से गंठी गई चोली और छोटी स्टाइल का घाघरा ही पहनती थीं लेकिन कालांतर में उसके ऊपर साड़ी पहनने का प्रचलन शुरू हो गया। दूसरी शताब्दी ईपू की मूर्तियों में पुरुषों और स्त्रियों के शरीर के ऊपरी भाग को अनावृत दर्शाया गया है।

 ये कमर के इर्द-गिर्द साड़ी इस प्रकार लपेटे हुए हैं कि पैरों के बीच सामने वाले भाग में चुन्नटें बन जाती हैं। इसमें 12वीं सदी तक कोई खास परिवर्तन नहीं हुआ। भारत के उत्तरी और मध्य भाग को जीतने के बाद मुगलों ने जोर दिया कि शरीर को पूरी तरह से ढंका जाए।
